SUMMER 2025 EVENSONG WORKSHOP
Experience the timeless tradition of Choral Evensong in this unique workshop designed for singers seeking to deepen their understanding and appreciation of sacred choral music. Participants will delve into the rich harmonies and spiritual depth of works by composers such as Thomas Tallis and Thomas Weelkes. This workshop offers a rare opportunity to perform in two distinct venues, each enhancing the meditative and communal aspects of the Evensong service.
Workshop Overview
Auditions: No auditions; inquire about your suitability.
Limit of Places: 20
Date Range: June 23 – August 3, 2025
Schedule:
- 6 Monday Rehearsals @ Southminster United Church
- June 23 — July 28 | 7-9 PM
- 2 Saturday Dress Rehearsals (locations TBD)
- July 26 & August 2 | 9:30 AM-12:30 PM
- 5 Optional Thursday Sectionals @ Roland’s home in Gatineau (J8T 3L3)
- June 26 — July 24 | 10 AM-2 PM
- 2 Evensongs: St. Thomas, Alta Vista & Holy Trinity Lascelles
- July 27 & August 3 | 4 PM (choir call 2 PM)
Repertoire: This year’s mostly a capella repertoire includes a mix of familiar, accessible works along with some fresh and more challenging numbers:
- If ye love me (Thomas Tallis)
- Alleluia, I heard a voice (Thomas Weelkes)
- Canticles (Magnificat / Nunc Dimitis)
- 3 Hymns, and a Psalm with chant by Roland Graham
Fee: $340 (includes HST + printed music)*

- Are seeking to expand their repertoire with Renaissance and Baroque choral works.
- Love beautiful, serene sacred music.
- Are looking to enhance their vocal technique and ensemble skills.
- Are interested in performing in both urban and rural church settings.
- Want to connect with fellow singers in Ottawa.
- Seek a short-term choir experience.
- Have previously participated in Ottawa Choral Workshops and are seeking to continue their musical journey.


Additional Information
Pay-What-You-Can Fees: A sliding scale is available to anyone for whom the workshop fee is preventative. No explanation needed, just ask.
Referral Offer: Receive a 25% rebate off the regular fee if you refer a new participant who registers and completes the workshop.
Attendance Policy: Regular attendance is expected given the demands of the repertoire. If you have unavoidable conflicts with one or two dates, please let us know and we will try to accommodate.
