The Experience

Ottawa Choral Workshops returns to Holy Trinity Lascelles in Wakefield, Quebec, for a special summer project centered on the Anglican Evensong tradition—one of the most enduring and finely balanced forms of choral music-making.

Set in an intimate and resonant acoustic, this project focuses on clarity, blend, independence, and expressive depth in a chamber ensemble setting. The workshop culminates in a live offering of Choral Evensong as part of Holy Trinity’s longstanding summer series.

Who This Workshop Is For

This project is designed for singers who:

have strong choral experience and musical independence
are comfortable preparing music with minimal guidance
enjoy singing in a small ensemble setting
are interested in a cappella or lightly accompanied repertoire
value precision, blend, and expressive detail

What Makes This Workshop Different

This is a chamber-format project with a high level of individual responsibility. With a small ensemble and limited rehearsal time, singers are expected to prepare thoroughly in advance.

Rehearsals focus on ensemble cohesion, tonal blend, and expressive clarity, allowing the group to work efficiently toward a polished and cohesive performance in a uniquely supportive acoustic.

Workshop Format

Four rehearsals combining ensemble and detail-focused work
Chamber ensemble setting (small group of singers)
Final performance as a complete Choral Evensong service

Expectations

Due to the small ensemble format, strong preparation and consistent attendance are essential.
