GABRIEL FAURÉ’S REQUIEM AND OTHER SUBLIME CHORAL WORKS ON PARADISE

For singers with choral experience wishing to take things to the next level, singing one of the most beautiful choral masterworks of the modern age, leading to a concert production supported by orchestra, featuring a complimentary selection of works exploring the theme of Paradise

  • Limit of places: 36
  • Date Range: September 9 – November 17
  • Rehearsals: Monday Evenings 7-9:30 PM
  • Sectionals: Wednesday afternoon and evenings, times TBC
  • Educational Concert (for school kids): November 15 @ 10 AM
  • Public Performance: November 17 @ 7:30 PM
  • Repertoire: Requiem, Op. 48 by Gabriel Fauré
  • Supplementary Repertoire*: Faire is the Heaven by William Harris, I Thank You God for Most This Amazing by Roland Graham, The Bluebird by Charles Villiers Stanford
  • Fee: $420* (HST included) + $80 for tickets*

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

This workshop is geared to people for whom any of the following applies:
  • You’ve always wanted to sing Fauré’s Requiem.
  • You’ve sung Fauré’s Requiem before and want to sing it again!
  • You’ve never heard of Fauré’s Requiem but love beautiful sacred music!
  • You take learning music seriously and want to join a group where that is embraced and nurtured.
  • You enjoy singing music that is both accessible while also profoundly expressive and moving.
  • You would enjoy making new friends in the Ottawa community who share your love of singing.
  • You’d like to sing in a serious choir but are not able to make the usual season-long commitment.
  • You would enjoy singing with a professional orchestra and soloists.
  • The theme of “paradise” is meaningful or appealing to you at this time in your life.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  1. Pay-What-You-Can Fees: Available to anyone for whom the registration fee is preventative. No explanation needed. Simply indicate what you are able to pay when reaching out to inquire. Discounts available also for couples or groups registering together; please inquire here.
  2. Advance Tickets: Participants are asked to purchase $80 worth of tickets at the time of workshop registration, which they can resell to friends and family for personal reimbursement. If you are uncomfortable with selling tickets, there are other things you can do to help achieve a well attended event; please inquire if this is your case.
  3. Supplementary a capella works by Harris, Graham and Stanford will be sung by a subset of the main chorus, with participation by audition on the basis of participants’ capacity to sing more complex a capella music. Please indicate your interest in participating in this component of the workshop at the time of registration.
  4. Section Lead Positions: To encourage and develop leaders, experienced singers can request to participate in the workshop for a reduced fee in exchange for their leadership contribution. Leads should be confident and experienced singers who are available for all of the sessions and able to hold their part while others are learning.
